Winterstien Construction was started in 1973 by Bill and Vicky Winterstien.
Bill Winterstien graduated in the first Building Trades Program class from Southwestern Community College in 1968. He worked for a framing carpenter for a couple of years before buying a set of concrete forms and focusing on pouring foundations and framing new homes. In 1974, Bill and Vicky partnered with John Wick Homes out of Mazomanie, WI, and started erecting panelized homes. For more than 40 years, Winterstien Construction has provided new homes to over 500 customers in southwest Iowa.
In 2008, Melissa Driskell, daughter of Bill and Vicky, joined the company to add expertise in commercial construction. Melissa graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering in 1995. She worked in Des Moines for general contractors for almost 10 years before joining the family business.
Our family owned company takes great pride in the reputation it has developed with our customers over the years. We build homes…not houses!
In 2009, due to the economic conditions of the housing market, John Wick Homes filed bankruptcy.
In December 2009, Winterstien Construction partnered with Blenker Building Systems from Amherst, WI. Blenker also provides a panelized housing system. Blenker is a 35 year old family owned business with Peter Blenker, Pam Jewell and their three sons running all the daily activities.
Since December 2009, Blenker created a standard system called Envision…Home at Last that provided the builders with more than 40 pre-priced, customizable floor plans with 3D computer renderings and “walk-thrus”.
Today…Winterstien Construction still offers a turnkey home project and can provide commercial construction services from general contracting to construction management.
